Establishment of an allied health centre
In 2016, DEAL provided investment support to Arnhem Physiotherapy (now Arnhem Allied Health Centre) through our Economic Development Fund to increase community access to essential allied health services by attracting health professionals to the East Arnhem region. This involved a relocation to the Nhulunbuy town centre and a full internal building refurbishment to create eight fully equipped consultation rooms and an exercise studio. At the time of application, Arnhem Physiotherapy employed four full time staff.
Arnhem Allied Health Centre now operates six days a week, with a typical week involving more than 500 patients being seen. The Centre now employs nine full time equivalent staff in East Arnhem, shared between three administration staff, two registered nurses, four physiotherapists and six general practitioners. The fully equipped visiting consulting space allows a range of specialists to deliver their services in the region on a regular basis including dermatology, optometry, surgical consultants, speech therapy, paediatric Occupational Therapy and more. Group exercise classes are offered in the centre’s exercise studio with nine regular group classes per week.
