Developing East Arnhem Limited (DEAL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Luke Walker as Chief Executive Officer following a rigorous and competitive recruitment process.
Mr Walker brings more than 20 years of experience driving economic outcomes in complex operating environments at an executive level, most recently as Chief Operating Officer of Journey Beyond. Mr Walker can confidently lead strategic initiatives and deliver sustainable economic results. He will play a key role to support economic prosperity for East Arnhem Land.
While at Journey Beyond, Mr Walker worked with First Nations people from Arnhem Land to Broome, including the Kimberley, to realise and bolster local opportunities and collaboratively develop the tourism industry.
“Building my knowledge of East Arnhem Land’s rich cultural history is a key priority of mine along with creating strong relationships with the people in the region,” Mr Walker said.
“I look forward to the opportunity to listen and learn, especially to understand the aspirations of Traditional Owners to inform delivery of DEAL’s 2025-2030 Strategic Plan.”
Mr Walker’s extensive history grounds him with advanced economic and governance acumen, and a proven ability to support the aspirations of the regions he works in. He creates strong networks in the communities where he operates with key stakeholders, governments and the business community.
DEAL is deeply committed to driving sustainable economic development in East Arnhem Land. Mr Walker will work closely with Traditional Owners, stakeholders and the community to understand and support the region’s economic prosperity while respecting and appreciating the region’s unique cultural landscape.
Mr Walker is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and has provided significant input inside boardrooms, on committees and on industry and government advisory panels.
Prior to his role at Journey Beyond, Mr Walker has held senior roles in the hospitality, gaming and entertainment industries where he led the strategic direction of organisations to achieve their visions and goals.
Please join me in welcoming Luke, his wife Jody, and their daughter to the region. Luke will commence in the role on 8 October and his wife and daughter will join him at the end of the school year.
